We are often asked when our sweet corn will start. Well, what do you think? If you place a comment on our blog mentioning your best guess you can win a $10 Magicland Farms gift certificate which can be used to buy stuff online from our websites www.magiclandfarms.com or www.magiclandelectronics.com or buy produce, including sweet corn from our roadside farm market. If there is more than one correct guess, the winner will be picked from a hat. Please, only one guess per family. FYI, the earliest we started selling corn in the past was July 6 and the latest July 23. In addition to the weather and when we planted, the difference also had to do with the actual variety of corn we planted–some xtra-early corn varieties ripen over a month earlier than some late varieties and the variety of corn we first plant has evolved through the years. We have given up on some of the very early varieties because of quality and size issues. This year our first corn went in April 23, which is earlier than normal for us.
