The corn contest ends today at 12:59PM! For details see the previous two posts. Late tomorrow I plan on posting my best guess, which should be quite accurate although I have goofed before! Remember, you guess the date when we start selling our corn! Since we don’t work on Sunday we don’t pick on Sunday which means simply the date of the first corn can’t fall on a Sunday since we make a habit of selling corn picked the same day we put it up for sale in our in-stand corn bin! (If there is any leftover corn we plainly mark it DAY OLD and it is placed outside and put out at a reduced price.) Also, since our first patch of corn is about an acre, some corn will be ready a couple of days before the date we sell it but we don’t pick it. We must make sure we have enough corn ready before we start picking it. I remember in years past we said a certain date so we made sure we picked some corn on that date even though we found it real hard to find just a measley 3 and a half bushels, which lasted about 15 minutes at the stand, and some of it was too young at that! I don’t want to go through that route again which means the date we set will be about a day later than the date we think. However, two unexpected, cool cloudy days can cause problems in our timing, although not in the quality of corn. BTW our green beans are really coming in now.
